Like, "During the pandemic I was literally nocturnal" is a sentence I've said many times, because it's true, I was staying up til dawn every day and only waking up in the afternoon. The signs and symptoms of BPPV can come and go and commonly last less than one minute.

But in my own life I would've used it if my sleep schedule was messed up. A loss of balance or unsteadiness Nausea Vomiting. I wouldn't have used "nocturnal" in this context because it's a little formal, although reading it wouldn't be weird. Nocturnal emissions are most common during adolescence and early young adult years, but they may happen any time after. That includes vampires, owls that like to hunt by moonlight, and that roommate who stays up. I'd say lesser known is the opposite word, "diurnal", which just means you live/are awake in the day. A nocturnal emission, informally known as a wet dream, sex dream, nightfall or sleep orgasm, is a spontaneous orgasm during sleep that includes ejaculation for a male, or vaginal wetness or an orgasm (or both) for a female. If something is nocturnal, it belongs to or is active at night. I definitely think it's a word the average person knows, I feel like it's one of the first animal things you learn as a kid along with hibernation. Weve arranged the synonyms in length order so that they are easier to find. But I'm not talking about nocturnal animals all the time so it's as common as is me talking about nocturnal if that makes sense.

It's used fairly commonly in my experience, because it's the only way to describe an animal that lives/is awake at night as opposed to the daytime.
